The Fastnet Race is the jewel of offshore yacht racing. The 608 mile competition has taken place during August, every second year since 1925 and attracts crews from all over the world. Three Hundred yachts of all classes race from Cowes, along the coastlines of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and out into the Irish Sea. Rounding the Fastnet Lighthouse, Ireland's most southerly point, the crews then return to the finish of the race at Plymouth.
Often eventful and always exciting the Fastnet Race has the reputation for being one of the toughest yacht races in the world. |
